Don't Toss Those Green Onion Tops: Dehydrate Them!
If you're growing green onions in your garden, chances are you've trimmed off the tops and wondered what to do with them. Instead of tossing them into the compost, consider dehydrating them for a flavorful, long-lasting kitchen staple.
Green onion tops are packed with mild onion flavor and dry beautifully. Simply wash the tops thoroughly, pat them dry, and chop them into small pieces. Spread them evenly on dehydrator trays and dry at 125°F (52°C) for 4–6 hours, or until completely crisp. You can also use an oven on its lowest setting if you don't have a dehydrator.

Once dried, store the pieces in an airtight jar away from heat and light. They can be left as flakes or ground into a powder using a spice grinder.
